Credit Card FAQ's

1.)  How do I verify that the credit card application I am submitting is secure?

To verify that your personal information is being submitted securely:

1.  On any page that asks you to submit personal information, there will be a Padlock which indicates a secure connection.  The (Padlock) will be on the bottom of your browser (the grey part), in the bottom right corner.  Double clicking the Padlock will open the website's SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) certificate.

2.  The certificate will display the registered owner and verify the security of the connection.  For example, if you are applying for an American Express credit card, the verified registrant is www66.americanexpress.com.

2.)  Does Credit Card Depot Inc. collect personal information from visitors?

Credit Card Depot Inc. is committed to protecting your privacy when you visit our Web site. You can access Credit Card Depot Inc. and browse our site without disclosing any of your personal data. Credit Card Depot Inc. does not collect any personally identifiable information about individuals, such as names and mailing or e-mail addresses.

3.)  Do all credit cards charge a 3% balance transfer fee?

There was a time in the not so recent past when many credit card issuers did not charge this fee.  However, nearly every credit card now charges this fee.  However, this fee is very small in comparison to the value of a 0% balance transfer.  For example, if you were to transfer $5000 from a credit card with 18.15% interest rate, you would pay $150 for the transfer and no interest for a year.  Were you to leave the same balance on your old credit card, you would pay $950 in interest.

Here, a balance transfer saves you $875 in interest and fees.  So, even though the days of the no fee balance transfer appear to be over, the value of the 0% balance transfer is easily worth the 3%.

4.)  What are the most important factors to consider when choosing a credit card?

The answer depends on how you use your card.  If you always pay your bill in full in each month, than APR is a less important factor.  Since you avoid paying interest by paying your bill in full, secondary features such as rewards and annual fees should be considered.

If you do not pay your card in full each month, than the annual percentage rate is the most important factor.  Ultimately, the goal is to limit how much you spend on interest over time, and having a low APR should be the primary factor in your decision.
